색의 향연, 인도 홀리 축제
India celebrates the Hindu festival of color... known as Holi.
The holiday most widely associated with people dousing each other with colored powered... holds much deeper significance.
There are two parts to Holi. The first night is more subdued. People hold a ritual burning to signify good triumphing over evil. And then day two -- the color explosion.
"We will enjoy a lot today. There is no discrimination of any kind. We will smear each other with colors and we will have different sweet dishes today."
But not all take part in the colorful chaos. Some say the powders aren't good for the skin... and celebrate with mud instead.
"Mud works as a face pack and if applied on any part of the skin it has a positive effect.
The festival purportedly brings together people from all classes and age groups to enjoy themselves.
And Bruce, Holi is not just limited to India these days.
That's right, and it's celebrated outside the Hindu faith as well. I think the themes of good over evil and classless celebration resonant all over the world.
