North Carolina Lt. Gov. Mark Robinson spoke Monday at the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee, two days after an assassination attempt against former President Donald Trump at a rally in Pennsylvania.
The suspected shooter, who was killed by law enforcement, killed one person and seriously injured two.
Robinson, the first Black lieutenant governor in his state, is running for governor in November.
“Under Joe Biden, grocery prices have skyrocketed and gas has nearly doubled,” Robinson said. “And North Carolina factories just like the one I worked at are closing, leaving families feeling hopeless. But there is hope. And I'm proof.”
Inflation, including rising grocery and gas prices, did increase during President Joe Biden’s administration, but has since slowed. Economists warn against attributing high prices to the president or his policies alone.
During the convention, delegates will adopt a party platform and Trump will formally accept the Republican nomination for president. On Monday, Trump named Sen. J.D. Vance of Ohio as his running mate.
The Republican National Convention kicks off Monday, July 15, in Milwaukee against the backdrop of an apparent assassination attempt against former President Donald Trump this weekend. PBS News will have gavel-to-gavel special coverage each day of the convention, with a continuous stream from the main floor.
