5D Mark IV VS Sony A7RII (Which one is better?)
Canon 5D used to be a very popular video tool for filmmakers. But since they have entered to the Cinema camera line. Canon no longer focus on DSLR video market anymore. Then in 2014, Sony made their world’s first low light king full frame mirrorless (Sony A7S). The camera can do crazy high ISO in lowlight situation. And because the A7 series are mirrorless. Users are able to adapt all their Canon lenses with a Metabones adapter. A lot of people made a switch to Sony. In 2015, Sony had made their second gen A7RII and A7SII even better. Such as internal 4K and in body 5x Axis Image StabiliZation. But in 2016, Canon finally updated their 5D series. And this time they focused more into the video feature. So I’m kind of curious, is Canon able to take over the video market. Lets find out in this test!!


5D Pros
- Stunning DCI True 4K image
- Nice Canon natural color
- Great dual pixel AF system (Can do tap tracking focus)
- Awesome battery life
- No overheating issue
- 8Bit 4:2:2

5D Cons
- 1.74x crop factor
- Not edit friendly with 500Mbps (Need to convert it to ProRes for editing)
- 30mins recording limit
- No in body image stabilisation (Compared with A7RII)
- No peaking and no zebras
- No clean HDMI output for external 4K recording

A7RII Pros
- Super 35mm 1.5x crop factor (Can attach Speedbooster for full frame look)
- No 30mins recording limit (After the hack)
- Always able to zoom in to check focus while recording

A7RII Cons
- Softer 4K comparing with 5D Mark IV
- Pool battery life
- Still overheat after latest firmware update (But it does expend the overheat limit, better than before but still not perfect)
- No touch screen for tap focus
- Focus magnification doesn’t look ver clear, hard to see if its in focus or not
- 8Bit 4:2:0
