In this video, you'll see the difference between Brinell and Vickers hardness tests for steel, two incredibly useful methods of testing steel's properties when sourcing it for use in your product or project.

When designing a steel component or product, the design engineer will need to know the hardness in order to determine how well the item will resist deformation or abrasion. These steel tests use a machine to force either a ball-shaped or diamond-shaped indenter into the steel at a certain rate of pressure. The results of this indentation demonstrate the hardness.
