Peter is a recently retired Plastic Reconstructive Microsurgeon. He is one of the most recognisable names in the field. His name is synonymous with the 6 volume Plastic Surgery textbook published by Elsevier, widely considered to be the bible of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. He has also written numerous other books and was one of the pioneers and early proponents of reconstructive microsurgery. Irish by origin, Peter trained in Dublin, moved to Canada where he served as Chief of Plastic Surgery at Toronto General Hospital from 1996-2007 and in 1999 took up the Wharton Chair of Plastic Surgery, the first endowed chair in Plastic Surgery in Canada. In 2007, he moved to Seattle, WA, in the USA where he served as Professor of Surgery. He held numerous leadership positions in learned societies including past presidencies of the Plastic Surgery Foundation, the American Society for Reconstructive Microsurgery and the North American Skull Base Society.
