What’s happening in this movie clip?

Zorro (Antonio Banderas) is riding Tornado on a train, trying to reach the car where Elena (Catherine Zeta-Jones) and his son Joaquin are kept hostage by Armand (Rufus Sewell). He manages to reach them and immediately engage in a sword fight with Armand, allowing Elena and Joaquin to flee through the back cars.
