One of the test films for the forthcoming TRACE Musician-in-Residence Project, where live music joins with dance, graphics & film, spoken word, science and the environment to prompt a change in behaviour around electronic waste and the circular economy.
For this project, musician-in-residence Robin Browning combines found sounds from current and discarded electronics as well as sounds of the human voice. Loops, sequencers and granular sampling feature strongly, with the final performance utilising forces of multiple electronics & keyboard players, percussion and strings.
In this track, a single sung note is subject to extensive manipulation in various sample engines before being scored into music and combined with film. The whole thing – both audio and video – continually LOOPS, serving as a key metaphor for the project's overarching theme: that of continual renewal and reuse – the Circular Economy.
