Today is the 43rd anniversary of the most destructive volcanic eruption the Pacific Northwest portion of the United States ever produced in recorded history. As on May 18th of 1980, the Mount Saint Helens volcano partially collapsed in a major explosive eruption, which in 250 seconds destroyed 280 square miles of forest that had more than hundreds of structures and approximaely five dozen people in the affected area at the time. This video discusses the May 18th 1980 climatic eruption of Mount Saint Helens along with what caused it and the preceding series of events which led to it.
