Margaret Pole the Countess In The Tower was born 14 August 1473, Lady Margaret was one of the few surviving members of the Plantagenet dynasty after the Wars of the Roses. In 1512, Margaret Pole became Countess of Salisbury. Reginald Pole her son warned of the dangers of the Boleyn marriage.
In 1537, Reginald was created a Cardinal. Pope Paul III put him in charge of organising assistance for the Pilgrimage of Grace a popular uprising that began in Yorkshire in October 1536 and without a doubt The "most serious of all Tudor rebellions", in protest against Henry VIII's break with the Roman Catholic Church.
With Reginald on the run, it would be down to Thomas Cromwell and Richard Rich to find suitable replacements! By May 1539, Henry, Margaret, Exeter and others were attainted. This conviction meant they lost their titles and their lands. Margaret Pole, now without her title was held for the next 2 and a half years in the Tower of London.
On the morning of 27 May 1541, Margaret was told she was to die within the hour.
