STORYLINE
NASA''s space shuttle Discovery, the first shuttle to fly since 2003, on Friday began its cross-country trip back to Kennedy Space Centre in Florida - on top of a modified Boeing Commercial airliner.
The shuttle''s 22-hundred mile (3,539 kilometre) trip home from California was expected to take about two days.
The plane was scheduled to stop for refuelling and was expected to arrive in Florida late on Saturday.
Discovery landed at Edwards Air Force Base north of Los Angeles on August 9 after a 14-day mission to the International Space Station.
It was the first shuttle mission since Columbia was destroyed on its return to Earth in 2003.
