Taronga Western Plains Zoo is home to some of the world’s leading experts in veterinary medicine and science and we now have a hospital to match.
Our new, purpose-built Wildlife Hospital has been designed to enhance the unique and diverse skillset of the team, and will be a hub for the treatment of native animals like koalas, platypus, reptiles and raptors.
Previously ‘behind-the-scenes’ hospital procedures will now be on display to the public, giving guests a window into how we heal the wild by viewing animal surgeries, health checks and cutting edge science as it unfolds.
Alongside caring for the 700+ animals who call the zoo home, the wildlife hospital is essential for the care, rehabilitation, and conservation of orphaned and injured native wildlife and critically endangered species in our conservation programs.
Open to the public from today onwards, the new Wildlife Hospital is the final stop on our 5.3km circuit. We are so excited for you, our guests, to finally see first-hand the incredible work that our Wildlife Veterinary team and Scientists perform each and every day.
