Welcome to the Heavy Spoilers show I'm your host Paul and I just wanna apologise for leaving you out in the cold when it's come to Snowpiercer breakdowns.
Unfortunately due to my schedule, I wasn't able to fit in weekly reviews but I've been keeping track of the series and I have to say I've absolutely loved it.
The first season was very much a metaphor for turning a dictatorship into a democracy through revolution. Revolution is a term in Snowpiercer that has a lot of meaning as not only does it signify when the train has completed a full journey around the earth but it also symbolised what was happening on the train.
Season one ended with a revolution that turned the train into a republic but bigger problems came with the return of Wilford on a second train. Season Two is very much a cold war, excuse the pun, between Snowpiercer and Wilford's train Big Alice. There's guerilla tactics used, diplomatic disputes and several acts of espionage whilst the two trains try and out manoeuvre one another. The show also tackles issues like imports and exports and overall it's one of the most complex metaphors surrounding these subjects.
Sean Bean has been completely chilling it as Wilford and throughout he's put on the face of a man who wants the best for both trains even though he has meddled in the democracy of Snowpiercer. His performance is absolutely incredible and he perfectly nails the material that requires him to be cool, calm and cal...well cool again.
His people clearly fear him greatly and the scene in which he made one of his own staff members slit their wrists was one of the most evil things I've ever seen comitted by a villain in a tv show.
Now being from England, when I was growing up I learned a lot about how the royal family used to marry off their members to keep the peace amongst countries. Whilst there were no weddings, Audrey was sent in to somewhat spy on Wilford so that Layton could see what he was up to. However she becomes attached to the luxury and glamorous...g-g-glamorous glamorous.
