After one of the most tense voting battles in the history of the contest the year before, a one-point winning margin thanks to Celine Dion brought Eurovision to Switzerland for 1989. I would consider this edition of the contest to be one of my personal favourites, as a sizeable selection of the songs on offer this year have a distinct musical style not often seen in Eurovision up to that point, and a selection of these songs have stood the test of time to become some of my all-time favourite entries. This contest has also gone down in history for producing the only winning song from a country which no longer exists today, making this country's joyous triumph seemingly their last.
