For many children in West Virginia staying focused on academics is a daunting challenge. Poverty, broken families, substance abuse, and mental health issues often contribute to a child falling behind in school. These are just some of the realities that can lead a child to believe their only option is to drop-out.
West Virginia Public Broadcasting presents Communities in Schools: Extending a Helping Hand, a broadcast featuring a national education program that helps connect public schools with community resources to ensure every child is nurtured and supported - that every child is helped to flourish in school and successfully graduate. The half-hour broadcast features the stories of WV children who have been helped by the Communities in Schools program, an effort championed by WV First Lady Cathy Justice.
