Based on ‘Bird Songs From Around The World’ written by Les Beletsky.
Europe region: Western Capercaillie (Tetrao urogallus) is the largest and most striking member of the grouse family. They are restricted to the northern hemisphere. The species ranges from Western Europe eastward to parts of Siberia. They are scarce in many regions due to destruction and alteration of forest and over hunting. Western Capercaillie is now abundant in Scandinavia and have been reintroduced in Scotland. These grouse eat pine needles, leaves, plant buds in winter and berries, sedges and mosses in summer. The male Western Capercaillie gives long calls with clicking, popping, hissing sounds and the calls also sound like ko-KRERK-korohr.
