The Municipality of Cavallino Treporti was born in 1999 and is one of the youngest in Italy, but the history of the area is very ancient. ... Cavallino Treporti developed its strong rural vocation: agriculture and livestock were the main source of income of the time and the products were sold in the markets of Venice
The territory flourished in Roman times (the mosaics of a villa were unearthed in Lio Piccolo) and especially in the early Middle Ages, when important centers such as Torcello, Ammiana and Costanziaco arose in the northern lagoon. The changing environmental conditions and the affirmation of Venice led these to decline in the following centuries; the area became swampy and became malarial and was recovered only during the later reclamations that led to the foundation of the current settlements. Proof of this is the presence of the word Ca 'in numerous toponyms, a term that indicates an agricultural estate. The excavation of the Cavallino canal (now the Casson canal) which was able to connect the lagoon to the Piave also contributed to the recovery of the area.

After the fall of the Republic of Venice and the establishment of the municipalities, the current Cavallino-Treporti depended on Burano and followed its fate when the latter was suppressed and integrated in Venice (1923).

Finally, as mentioned, with regional law n ° 11 of 29 March 1999 [6] the territory of the former district 9 "Cavallino-Treporti" was separated from Venice, after the population had expressed itself favorably in the referendum of 13 December 1998
