A focus of Khyentse Vision Project is to produce translations in metered verse for many of the poems and songs composed by Khyentse Wangpo. We then invite musicians, poets, and artists to create their own interpretations of these poems and host sessions where we invite special guests to discuss related topics.
For our fourth Verse to Music session we invited musicians and artists to create interpretations of In Praise to Sarasvatī— a poem by Jamyang Khyentse Wangpo.
Christian Bernert, KVP in-house translator and musician, created this inspiring musical interpretation, with gorgeous vocals added by Lara Nova.
AS HERE I SING MY PRAISE TO YOU
Lyrics: Christian Bernert
Based on the poem In Praise of the Noble Lady Vajra Sarasvatī
by Jamyang Khyentse Wangpo.
As here I sing my praise to you,
You instantly destroy
The chains that bind to pain and woe–
To you, Mother, I bow!
With pristine wisdom, bright and clear,
Swiftly you appear
To burn the veils that blind this mind–
Oh Goddess, please come near!
Goddess of Speech, Lady Sublime,
Drunken with love I pray: Please be mine!
Please be mine!
You grant intelligence to all,
Infinite and supreme;
This mind is perfect wisdom now–
Fountain of skill, I bow!
The moonlight of this prayer to you,
My Lady, noble, wise,
Dispels the darkness from my mind–
May wisdom oceans rise!
Queen of the Arts, Lady Sublime,
Drunken with love I pray: Please be mine!
Please be mine!
Within the pure mind's mirror forms
Your image, Queen of Song,
With mantra and samādhi, may
Accomplishments be born!
Glory of Speech, your secrets grace
My body, speech, and mind;
The stains of the three veils to clear;
Two wisdoms rise and shine!
Mother of Wisdom, Lady Sublime,
Drunken with love I pray: Please be mine!
Please be mine!
From now until awakening
Take me under your care,
To free, oh Noble Lady, all
In dhātu's wisdom sphere!
Goddess of Speech, Lady Sublime,
Drunken with love I pray: Please be mine!
Please be mine!
