That may have been the thought that drove a bidder to offer 12-thousand dollars for this famous photo from the day at the end of World War Two when Victory over Japan was announced.
SOT: Nicholas Lowry, Swann Auction Galleries: "They say passion like this hasn't existed in America since the end of the second World War, but on this Valentine's Day I actually dispute that, as viewed here today, people love photography so much they are spending thousands and thousands of dollars on these rare and wonderful images"

The photographer's signature is on the silver-resin coated print that was made in the 1980s.

'Alfred Eisenstaedt died in 1995. He had been a photographer for "life" magazine for decades.

He snapped "V-J Day Kiss" in 1945 in Times Square. The identity of the two people in the photo has always been disputed.
