(18 Jul 2016) More than 300 people participated in the famous ultra-marathon 100k race in Mexico's Copper Canyon on Sunday.
The race, which has been run by the Tarahumara people for hundreds of years, is a test of endurance and resistance.
Tarahumara's are considered some of the best long-distance marathoners in the world
The race started early morning and consists of adapting one's body to the altitude and climate changes around the canyon.
International runners were left amazed by how some native runners, wearing sandals and their heavy native clothes, managed to finish the race.
Tradition says that the Tarahumara used to run barefooted.
The Tarahumara word for themselves, Raramuri, means "runners on foot" or "those who run fast".
These people developed a tradition of long-distance running - up to 200 miles (320 km) - in one session, over a period of two days through their homeland of rough canyon country, for inter-village communication, transportation and hunting.
Organisers say every year more people from across the world are joining the challenge.
