Today we cover what Living in Whyte Ridge, Winnipeg MB neighbourhood is like. Stay tuned as local Realtor, Jennifer Queen talks all that you need to know about Whyte Ridge!
The first homes in the subdivision were constructed in 1986 with construction for the area mostly completed by around 2007.
Whyte Ridge has managed to keep itself a small, close-knit community. It is surrounded by several more expensive communities while offering an affordable option for young families. Because of the size of the community and the affordability, many families know one another. Those living in the area will see their children go to the same schools for years to come, which keeps the community very close-knit.
Whyte Ridge is a residential subdivision of approximately 1500 homes in the Southwest corner of the city of Winnipeg. Whyte ridge is bordered by Brady Road to the West, Kenaston Boulevard to the East, McGillivray Boulevard to the North, and Bishop Grandin Boulevard (if it were to extend) to the East. There is actually a Hydro Line that you can trace through this area if you look from aerial images. The subdivision was built on former farmland, just south of a small town site that was historically known as Fort Whyte.
Whyte Ridge has so much to offer! First, let’s start with Scurfield Park that offers soccer fields, baseball diamonds, and a pond with a beautiful water fountain feature. Also within the area is the Bishop Grandin Trail West which is a 5 kilometer multi-use trail that also happens to be part of the Trans Canada Trail. It passes through neighbouring Bridgwater Forest and will take you all the way to Fort Whyte Alive nature Centre. Are you wanting some additional outdoor park options? Leon Bell Park also offers a pond with a water fountain feature. Don Smith Park offers a baseball diamond and playground.
The Whyte Ridge Community Centre is also found within the area and offers basketball courts, a toboggan slide, outdoor rinks as well as programming for a variety of organized sports including soccer, badminton, lacrosse, baseball, softball, flagball, and more. The venue also offers a multipurpose room that can be booked for social functions and a butterfly garden.
Looking for something to do indoors? We highly recommend the Cineplex Odeon McGillivray Cinemas which are also found in this area. These would be considered the luxury movie theatres in Winnipeg, offering VIP services that include food delivery direct to your seat. They are also licensed and can serve liquor while you watch the latest flicks. There is also a restaurant within this cinema.
There is also an abundance of options for entertainment just beyond the borders of Whyte Ridge that we highly recommend checking out! Fort Whyte Alive is a local hotspot that is frequented by many of the locals. It offers year-round edutainment focusing on the environment. There is SOOOO much to explore in the sprawling 640 acres. Some of our family favourites include the Tipi encampment, floating marsh boardwalks, and tobogganing in the winter. Entrance into Fort Whyte Alive does come at a fee, but they also offer annual passes for those that are frequent visitors. We highly recommend the investment if you love getting outdoors.
Worth noting as well are some of the offerings in the commercial park along McGillivray Boulevard, just outside of the City of Winnipeg limits in Oakbluff. This area has a plethora of businesses, some of which include the Rink Training Centre, H20 Acadmy, Winnipeg Gymnastic Centre, Sky Zone Indoor Trampoline Park, and Hide and Seek play centre for children. These would all be within a 5–10-minute drive from Whyte Ridge.
There is an abundance of options just beyond the borders of this geographically desirable community. There are several retailers and restaurants located in at least five distinct retail developments (Kenaston Crossing, Kenaston Common, Linden Ridge Shopping Centre, Whyte Ridge Shopping Centre, and the Seasons of Tuxedo.
