The Famous Highland Drove 1981. Droving Highland cattle across Scotland in the footsteps or hoof prints of the Drovers and the vast droves of cattle that were reared in the Scottish Highlands. They were moved on foot to trysts in Crieff and Falkirk then fattened in southern pastures in England. This was an annual event and provided the bulk of the beef for the expanding cities of England and the Army and Navy of Wellington and Nelson during the Napoleonic wars....English beef on Highland bone! Today sadly much of the Highlands is under utilised but at one time supported a vast cattle economy. The Highlands could again support this economic activity and return fertility to these now empty glens......today the Highlands are empty of people and livestock just covered in trees or windmills! I think a return of these Highland cattle in large numbers would reinvigorate the upland regions of the UK and provide a ready supply of UK reared beef. About a 2 minute introduction....stick with it.
