Another fun ride on my new 2021 Yamaha MT09SP from Pony Powersports in Columbus, Ohio (thanks Derek and Cory!).
Still feeling the same as I did on my first ride. This bike is special! As I noted before sometimes you come across a performance motorcycle (or sports car) that combines power, chassis, weight, handling, suspension, performance, sound, craftsmanship, and styling into a package that simply works. The '21 MT09SP is such a bike and is so visceral and emotionally engaging while riding it is like a 2-wheel version of a Porsche GT3! The instant response of the Master of Torque MT engine with the throaty sound of the tuned intake and exhaust as the quick shifter instantly snicks into the next gear. The front wheel floating along the pavement (or off the pavement depending the Lift Control setting) as the MT09SSP lunges effortlessly forward. No need to rev the engine or be at a certain RPM with this kind of real world acceleration and response. The high tech 6-axis IMU assisting the rider with Slide Control, Brake Control, Traction Control, and Lift Control (aka wheelie!). The works level suspension with high end KYB forks and Ohlins rear shock have a firm and well damped feel in the stock settings and offer a wide range of adjustability for stiffer or plusher settings. The craftsmanship is top notch with some high tech manufacturing processes used the improve quality and lower weight. This bike is light and feels even lighter in motion. While I mostly ride motocross and off road bikes the ergonomics on the MT09SP feel natural for my 6'2" frame. The seat is comfortable but shortly after this ride I installed the optional comfort seat from Yamaha (I will post a review soon)
Only 160 miles so far but this bike has far exceeded my expectations. Looking forward to more rides soon but winter is coming so might need some heated grips!
