On Monday 2nd November, the government of France announced that an airstrike was launched in central Mali - it is a country in west Africa. In the airstrike over 50 militants linked to the terror group Al-Qaeda were killed. French Defense Minister Florence Parly said, “Operation Barkhane is a operation of the French Military which is fighting to remove all the Islamist Terror groups in parts of Africa. The Barkhane forces carried out the Mali air strike on 30th October. They killed terrorists and confiscated many weapons as well.” Parly said that the air strike took place in Mali near the borders of Burkina Faso and Niger. In this place, for a long time the French military was fighting to remove Islamist Terrorists. Parly said, “The French troops launched the airstrike after a drone detected a 'very large motorcycle caravan in the 'three borders' area.” She also said that over 30 motorcycles were destroyed in the area. Military spokesman Colonel Frederic Barbry revealed that four terrorists were captured. Barbry also said that another operation, with 3,000 soldiers targeting the Islamic State in the Greater Sahara is going on. The operation started about a month ago. He said that the results of the operation would be announced in the coming days.
