One of the greatest songs of Zülfü Livaneli as captured from a mid 80ies TV program. The song was originally written as a soundtrack to Serif Gören's 1981 movie 'Yilani Oldurseler', an adaptation from Yasar Kemal, and with Türkan Soray in the lead role. Later, Gozlerin was featured on Zülfü's album 'Ada'. Both the music and lyrics were composed by Zülfü.
Here are the lyrics and their translation:
Gozlerin
Duslerin parlayip sondugu yerde
Bulusmak seninle bir aksamustu
Umarsiz sarkilar dudagimda
Bir yarim ezgi
Siginmak gozlerine siginmak bir aksamustu
Gozlerin bir ciglik, bir yarali haykiris
Gozlerin bu gece cok uzaktan
Gecen bir gemi
Bir orman bir gece kar altindayken
Cocuksu, ucari kosmak seninle
Elini avcumda bulup yitirmek
Siginmak ellerine, siginmak
Bir gece vakti
Ellerin bir marti, telasli ve urkek
Ellerin firtinada cirpinan
Your Eyes
To meet with you in one dusk
where dreams glow and then disappear
Helpless songs on my lip
Half a melody
Taking refuge in your eyes, taking refuge in one dusk
Your eyes are a scream, a wounded outcry
Your eyes, tonight
Are a ship passing far away
A forest, one night, and under heavy snow
Running with you so frivolous and juvenile
To hold your hand in mine and lose it again
Taking refuge in your hands, taking refuge
In one nighttime
Your hands, a seagull, excited and shy
Your hands, a white sail
Fluttering in the storm
To leave a city and depart just like that
With a thousand worries and questions in your mind
An unfinished song on your lip half a melody
Taking refuge in songs, taking refuge for a lifetime
Your eyes are a scream, a wounded outcry
Your eyes, tonight, are a ship passing far away
Your hands, a seagull, excited and shy
Your hands, a white sail, fluttering in the storm
