Mt Cheam is located in the eastern part of the Fraser Valley, in British Columbia, Canada. This mountain is approximately 2,100 meters high (6,919 feet), making it one of the tallest peaks in the area. Compared to other surrounding mountains, such as Mt Slesse, Mt MacFarlane, and Mt Lindeman, Mt Cheam offers a unique hiking experience that is well worth the effort.

HOW TO GET THERE
Getting to Mt Cheam is relatively easy. The mountain is located about 30 kilometers east of Chilliwack, BC. To get there, you can take Highway 1 eastbound, then take Exit 135 and head south on Vedder Road. After that, turn left onto Chilliwack Lake Road, if you cross the bridge you have gone too far. From there continue for about 20 kilometers until you reach the trailhead. There will be signs on the left and upon turning left (North) you will enter a new gravel road.

Before we go further with directions, you NEED a 4x4 vehicle. This can be a truck or jeep, you need the clearance. From the turn off it is about a slow 45 minute to 60 minute drive up the old logging trail. Be aware, Each spring some spots of the road will be washed out so this is where the 4x4 comes in! Eventfully you will come to a flat area parking lot, you have completed step one!

And yes there is a port of potty at this location to relive yourself before your next journey begins!

The trail to the summit of Mt Cheam is about 9 kilometres roundtrip (4.5 each way) and typically takes around 5-6 hours to complete, round trip. The trail is steep and challenging, but the breathtaking views of the Fraser Valley and surrounding peaks are well worth it.

When you reach the top, you’ll be rewarded with panoramic views of the Fraser Valley, the Cascade Mountains, and even the Coast Mountains. On a clear day, you can see all the way to Vancouver Island. The summit offers a 360-degree view, making it one of the best places in the area to take stunning photos.

One thing to keep in mind when hiking Mt Cheam is that the weather can change quickly, especially as you ascend higher up the mountain. It’s essential to come prepared with proper hiking gear, including warm clothing, sturdy footwear, and enough food and water for the day.

It can get very windy and cold at the peak so be sure to dress warm for the trip even for the hottest summer days.

Overall, Mt Cheam is a must-visit destination for anyone looking to experience the beauty of the Fraser Valley from a different perspective. The hike is challenging, but the views from the summit are truly breathtaking.

If you are feeling really adventuress, upon mid way of the height there is a turn off for Lady Peak. This elevation sits around 7,146 ft. I personally have not done it but it is on my hiking list to dos!
