Today we host a discussion between two amazing philosophers on the nature of the cosmic mind, Josh Rasmussen and Philip Goff.
Josh Rasmussen is author of several books, including Defending the Correspondence Theory of Truth (Cambridge University Press, 2014), Necessary Existence (with Pruss; Oxford University Press, 2015), How Reason Can Lead to God (IVP, 2019), and Is God the Best Explanation of Things (with Felipe Leon, Palgrave 2019). He also has an upcoming book about the nature of consciousness called "Who are you Really?: An investigation of the Nature and Origins of Persons" that is set to release in 2022.
Philip Goff is a philosopher and consciousness researcher at Durham University. He argues that traditional approaches of materialism (consciousness can be explained in terms of physical processes in the brain) and dualism (consciousness is separate from the body and brain) face insuperable difficulties. On the basis of this he defends a form of panpsychism, the view that consciousness is a fundamental and ubiquitous feature of the physical world. His first academic book, Consciousness and Fundamental Reality (Oxford University Press), was published in 2017 and the first book aimed at a general audience, Galileo's Error: Foundations for a New Science of Consciousness, was published in 2019 and is available from Amazon Amazon UK Barnes and Noble IndieBound Apple Books. Goff is currently working on a proposal for a new book arguing that the universe is conscious.
