Between Two Cities is a semi-cooperative tile laying game that is very wholesome. It's a game that you want to break out to the table if you have too many players but don't want to resort to the usual party games (which gets awful real fast). It's got some actual game in it, unlike most party games.
It's light and fast, making it a superb gateway game. All of my sessions playing this game have been extremely positive, people taking to each other, discussing how to go about with the game, it's just the most positive exchange in board games that I've seen.
The game could be a bit too simple for veteran euro gamers though, because there is not much depth in this one, but this game's strength is in its social interaction, and not complexity. It's still a strategy game, just a very light one.
Rules could be a bit much upfront especially for new gamers, but a couple of demonstration and practice rounds should solve this issue.
