In this video, Dr Feldman discusses the benefits of a custom made sports mouth guard for any contact sport. He discusses 3 different thicknesses - 1 layer, 2 layer, and 3 layer. Dr Feldman shows examples of typical mouthguards that don't offer the protection of a custom mouthguard.
A custom mouthguard is made by a dentist, orthodontist, or specialty laboratory. It should fit perfectly so the athlete can speak, breathe, and play hard without trying to hold the mouthguard in place.
These are the mouthguards worn by elite high school, college, and professional teams.
