The Taipei Metro will change the way it charges fares, starting Feb. 1. Riders who pay with an electronic ticket, such as EasyCard, will no longer receive an automatic 20% discount. Instead, the metro will offer rebates to frequent passengers. Under the new scheme, frequent riders can get up to 30% back at the end of each month. Starting next month, EasyCards will no longer give Taipei Metro riders an automatic 20% discount. In the future, once the scheme is implemented, passengers will have the full fare deducted when they pass through the gates. But at the end of every month, we will reimburse them an amount of money based on the number of times they''ve ridden the MRT.The new scheme will reimburse passengers after each month depending on the number of trips they''ve taken. Riders with 11 to 20 trips will get back 10% of their fare. Riders with 21 to 30 get back 15%. More rides rack up more in rebates, and the maximum rebate is 30%.This fare system will not affect holders of the NT$1,280 monthly transport pass. Riders are free to choose their own pricing system. Concession fare cards won''t get more expensive for two years.For the next two years, discounts for seniors and disabled passengers will remain unchanged. Taipei Metro says that once the new system is in effect, standard EasyCard holders should stick to one card to ensure maximum savings.
