Why do we celebrate Christmas? Why is Christmas important? Catholic speaker Ken Yasinski offers a Christmas message reflecting on the birth of Jesus and it’s meaning in our life.
What Is Christmas? On December 25 people around the world pause to celebrate. We buy gifts, gather as family, and take holidays. But why is Christmas important? What is Christmas about? Do we celebrate Christmas because of Santa Claus, reindeer and a flying sleigh? That fact is 2000 years ago Jesus was born in a manger. But that begs the question, why is that so good? Why is the birth of Jesus worth celebrating?
To understand the importance of Christmas, and to experience the true joy and meaning of this time, we have to understand the sadness of sin. The good news, without the bad news is no news at all. The bad news is humanity is under the power of sin. Sin brings death, and heaven is shut out from us.
Is it really that bad?
“St. Augustine, in a Christmas message said:
Wake up, O human being! For it was for you that God was made man. Rise up and realize it was all for you. Eternal death would have awaited you had He not been born in time. Never would you be freed from your sinful flesh had He not taken to Himself the likeness of sinful flesh. Everlasting would be your misery had He not performed this act of mercy. You would not have come to life again had He not come to die your death. You would have perished had He not come”.
Why Is Christmas Important? What is the good news about Christmas? What is the message? The good news about Christmas is that God initiated a search and rescue mission. He sent his son to save us from sin, to save us for sonship.
In a Christmas message St. John Kronstadt wrote:
And the Word became flesh!…in order to make us earthly beings into heavenly ones, in order to make sinners into saints; in order to raise us up from corruption into incorruption, from earth to heaven; from enslavement to sin and the devil – into the glorious freedom of children of God; from death – into immortality, in order to make us sons of God and to seat us together with Him upon the Throne as His royal children. O, boundless compassion of God! O, inexpressible wisdom of God! O, great wonder, astounding not only the human mind, but the angelic mind as well!”
Why do we celebrate Christmas? To rejoice in the fact that God became one of us, in His son Jesus Christ, to save us from the domino of darkness and transfer us to the kingdom of his beloved son, to save from sin, to save us for sonship, to abolish death to bring us eternal life.
Why celebrate Christmas? Because it is right and just! Recalling the merciful act of God in the incarnation of his Son, glorifies God. This is the first reason to celebrate Christmas. It is not about us, but what God has don for us. The importance of Christmas rest in the fact that God sent us son to atone for our sin and restore our love love relationship with him, which is mean to last forever!
Why celebrate Christmas? It also reaffirms our faith. There are many opposing message to the true meaning of Christmas. Taking time to celebrate the truth of this time deeps our personal conviction about the nativity of Jesus.
Why do people celebrate Christmas? First and foremost, to rejoice in the fact that 2000 years, Jesus was born, Lord at thy brith.
