The Center for Community Safety and Resilience, Dr. Callie Marie Rennison, and Dr. Sheila Huss present a crime report analyzing major violent and property crimes, as well as DUIs and narcotics offenses that were reported to law enforcement between 2010 and 2021. The report covers the State of Colorado and its 23 largest jurisdictions. Results showed that crime trends are complex and interpreting the analysis of crime data should be done with consideration of the scope of the data, as well as local and contextual factors that drive crime. This panel will look in-depth at the Crime Report, and explore the role of the media in reporting crime and the media’s impact on politics, policy-making, and the criminal justice system.
