Regarded as an auteur of video games. Hideo Kojima laid the foundations for stealth games, and his best known work is the Metal Gear series. The franchise that made him one of the most acclaimed video game designers in the world.
His first work was with Penguin Adventure in 1986 as an Assistant Designer. This was followed in 1987 with his critically acclaimed Metal Gear where he directed, wrote, and designed the game.
He was also part of the Snatcher series as a writer, a cyberpunk graphic adventure game with visual novel elements. Critics have discussed Snatcher as setting the stage for Kojima's later works and it foreshadowed his use of science fiction to explore other elements in the Metal Gear Solid franchise that is regarded as one of the greatest and most important video games of all time.
During the 2000s, Hideo Kojima produced a number of video games like Tokimeki Memorial, Beatmania, Boktai, and Zone of the Enders. One of his most successful franchise was Zone of the Enders that even spawned an original video animation and a 26 episode anime television series. A manga was produced called Solar Boy Django that was based on the Boktai storyline while the Tokimeki Memorial also received recognition with 4 manga adaptations and a 2 episode anime original video animation.
With the rise of the 8th generation gaming consoles, Hideo Kojima ventured with film director Guillermo Del Toro to develop P.T. an interactive teaser for the game Silent Hills. It was a free download on the Playstation Network until it was cancelled. By then, he moved on to develop Death Stranding. One of the critically acclaimed games of 2019. It received generally favorable reviews from critics, who saw it as a unique experience and praised its voice acting, soundtrack, and graphics, although many were polarized by its gameplay and story.
