Here's something you can riff out on while you wait for my 80s rhythm guitar mastery book.
The first example in the video is a Blackmore style riff that uses inverted power chords located in the pentatonic scale. It's played over a pumping G bass note. It sounds cool, but it's very much a 70s-sounding idea.
To add our first embellishment, we're going to join in with the bass by adding some muted 8th bass notes pedaled between chord stabs. Even speeding this idea up gives more energy and drive.
To take it up one more level, the third example replaces some 8th notes with 16th notes. Now we're riffing out like it's 1983.
