AIR BASE DEAL
Turkey has agreed to allow the US to use one of it military bases to launch air strikes against ISIS. The Incirlik air base is in the southeast near the Syrian border.. On Wednesday, Turkey President Recep Tayyip Erdogan spoke on the phone with his US counterpart, Barack Obama, to discuss co-operating on security. Soon afterwards Turkish jets hit ISIS positions in Syria without entering Syrian air. On Thursday, ISIS fighters killed a Turkish soldier in a cross border attack.
MIGRANTS DROWN AFTER BOAT CAPSIZES
African migrants who survived a capsizing say they think about 40 of their group drowned. Their boat sank just off the Libyan coast on Wednesday. A German ship rescued the group of over 950 asylum seekers on Thursday and brought them to Italy. The dead came from sub-Saharan countries such as Senegal, Mali and Benin. The International Organization 2on for Migration says that 150 thousand migrants have tried to cross the Mediterranean this year. About 1,900 are believed to have died.
DEATHS IN MOVIE THEATRE SHOOTING
A gunman has shot dead two people at a movie theatre in the state of Louisiana. Seven other people were also wounded.
Police say the 58-year-old opened fire about 20 minutes into the screening of a movie at the Grand Theatre in Lafayette before shooting himself dead.Police have not named him, but but said he had a criminal history.
NASA DISCOVERS 'EARTH 2.0'
Nasa scientists searching for Earth-like planets say they have found their closest match yet. They have dubbed the new world ‘Earth 2 point Oh.’ The Kepler telescope discovered the planet about 14-thousand light years away from our solar system. Kepler 4-5-2-B could have oceans and volancoes and is about 60-percent larger than Earth. Astronomers believe Earth-like planets could have liquid water and so may be suitable for life.
