SUGAR #2: THE “BLISS POINT”OF FOODS - Sugar affects your perception of foods by interacting with fat and salt through your taste buds. Taste scientists found that the optimum taste occurs for sugar at 10 grams of sugar per 100 grams of foods or 10% Sugar. This is the amount of sugar in colas and soft drinks. The optimum amount of fat is 20% by weight. When you combine 10% sugar and 20% fat you increase taste further to get what these scientists call the Bliss Point of best taste. Snack foods made to these specifications and combined with some salt were produced in large quantities in the 1970’s and promoted the obesity epidemic over the next 40 years when combined with a sedentary lifestyle.
