This clip is the first 4:17 and last 3:21of the exciting documentary on ShowTime called “Friedkin Uncut”.
The 100 minutes in between these sequences are riveting, funny, insightful, charming, illuminating and revealing of the craft and brilliance of one of the most original and intelligent directors of all time: William Friedkin.
He strangely doesn’t consider himself an “artist” but a professional who always strived for authenticity in telling stories on film.
He had some incredibly successful commercial films and some highly critically acclaimed ones and of course some “failures” by the measurement of the box office receipts. In my opinion many of his films don’t age as they have a timeless quality and reveal myriad aspects of human nature - the good, the bad, the ugly and sometimes the sublime.
