I finally made it, I reached Legend Rank in the Season of Hidden Gems. I've had a pretty rough season in terms of climbing effectively in Go Battle League Rankings, whether it's from trying out new team compositions or neglecting the Leagues I find it easier to win in, I've found myself bouncing up and down in Elo from anywhere between 2400 and 2850. Recently I had an absolutely awful run experimenting and managed to drop 350 points from 2850+ all the way back down to 2500.
I decided it was time to go a little try-hard in Ultra League while we still have it and make a hard push for Legend Rank during the Pokemon World Championships weekend. The team I came up with has been incredibly strong. Climbing me from 2500 to 2900 in just 2 days, from there the team struggled to keep pace and I found myself bouncing up and down between 2950 and 2850 over the next day or so. On Sunday I made ONE slight tweak to the team and immediately finished the climb and hit Legend Rank.
The team consists of Registeel on lead running Zap Cannon and Focus Blast, Cresselia on safe swap and Tapu Fini in the back. Early on I found that Registeel was winning the vast majority of leads giving me a huge advantage. As I climbed higher I started to run into more and more leads that were either strong against Registeel or neutral at best, leads like Alolan Sandslash, Swampert and Galarian Weezing became more and more common. So with a quick rearrangement, putting Tapu Fini onto the lead and Registeel in the back I found I started winning the majority of leads again allowing me to finish the Climb and hit 3043 ELO.
Just watch out for Virizion leads, they're absolutely awful to deal with using this team...
