Pioneering French surgeon Pierre Foldès tells Thomson Reuters Foundation of the harm to women who have undergone female genital mutilation (FGM). Foldès has invented a technique to repair the damage caused by FGM.
FGM comprises all procedures that involve partial or total removal of the external female genitalia, or other injury to the female genital organs for non-medical reasons. About 140 million girls and women worldwide are currently living with the consequences of FGM.
