update: I made a part 2 of study tips in my video how to become a veterinarian online!
MY STUDY STUDY TIPS:
- don't use flashcard apps like quizlet for ALL of your studying, quizlet is for memorizing... you want to actually learn this material! use quizlet when you need to memorize quick things.
- don't spend your time rewriting ALL your notes word for word, if I am rewriting something it is to drill a specific topic into me
- group study! talk it out with a group!
- when you first finish class GO BACK OVER YOUR NOTES, read them over, make sure they make sense... use google/youtube/friends/TAs/etc. to make sure things are clear! IF none of these options work DO NOT HESITATE to go to a professors office hours!
- go digital, either type your notes or use a tablet/iPad to take notes on with a note taking app. this is convenient so that you can search keywords in your notes when you need to reference something later on!
- I like to print out a type up of my notes and underline key words to help focus studying
- get an agenda book/calendar and plan out times to study and what will be studied BUT make your goals realistic!!
- find a good place to study, personally I cannot focus in my bedroom but that is just me! maybe you'll find that the best place for you to study is your room.
- LISTEN TO YOUR BODY, if you feel like you're exhausted then STOP take a nap and start again after your mind is well rested.
- acronyms are SUPER helpful to remember things!
- draw things out to! I am a visual person and I love drawing quick sketches (that usually look terrible) to help make things make sense!
just basically utilizing all my resources
Exams don't just scrape the surface and ask you to spit back information. It's all about applying those definitions clinically. YOU CAN DO IT!
