Hey guys! Thanks for watching my review. I'll recap it at the end of this description but first I want to mention a few things I missed about my Gotrax GXL:
-Assembly was a bit challenging; the handlebars did not insert correctly into the main frame so I had to take the battery out and plug it into the handlebars before attaching to the scooter.
-Acceleration is abysmally slow. 0-15 MPH in 12 seconds. This will vary greatly on your weight.
-There's two ways to brake: one on the handlebars and one is at the back by the wheel. The first one uses regenerative braking from the motor to recharge the battery. The second one is a traditional brake pad.
-The original range was around 9-10 miles, but nowadays I get about 6. Probably mainly due to my wheel being a bit dented and tires not pumped up. Could also be a battery or weight issue.
I think that's it! Now, to recap:
You might think that the weather was one of the main challenges for commuting with this scooter in Chicago. Not the case. Here's what I really liked and didn't like after 6 months with the Gotrax GXL:
Pros:
1. Speed- way faster commute than walking or even driving
2. Savings- cheaper than almost any other form of transport
3. Flexibility- walk in on the sidewalk if street conditions are unfriendly
Cons:
1. Safety- potholes and drivers are enemy #1
2. Parking- heavy if moving it upstairs; need to park somewhere where it can plug in and charge
3. Battery- unpredictable range, and battery indicator is unreliable
Thanks again! Would appreciate it if you let me know your thoughts in the comments!
