Twenty years ago - October 2, 1996 - Arsene Wenger began work at Arsenal. No-one imagined 1,129 games later he would still be in charge.
Wenger’s time in north London has brought 15 trophies, a new stadium and some of the greatest players the English game has ever seen, with the 66-year-old having guided Arsenal through rough and smooth waters in his time.
Arsenal enter their manager’s 20th anniversary in fine fettle; the last week has seen them crush local rivals Chelsea at the Emirates and put together a formidable 45 minutes of football in a 2-0 win over Basel.
It has become a truism that Wenger will be the last manager in England to reign at a top side for so long and it seems highly unlikely any boss will revolutionize a club the way he did with Arsenal.
