"Unfortunately this is something that we hope will end. We all hope for this and hopefully a miracle takes place and all this would end. The truth is that Mexico is a marvelous place, it's extraordinary. It's one of the countries with a beautiful culture and its costumes. I wish we could get rid of it. I wish we were in the years 50s or 60s where everything was more tranquil."

PLACIDO DOMINGO IS HONORED
Rock and pop crooners from throughout Latin America praised opera icon Placido Domingo as an inspiration to all Hispanics Wednesday, (10 Nov. 2010) during a star-studded tribute concert in Las Vegas celebrating the Spanish tenor's career.
Domingo, known to popular music audiences for his "Three Tenors" performances with Jose Carreras and the late Luciano Pavarotti, was honored as the Latin Grammy Person of the Year for his cultural and philanthropic accomplishments.
"I felt great satisfaction, emotion, and it was a great honor to our community," said Domingo. "There are so many important people in the world and for them to select you, I think it's a very big world. In this country we are a quantity that grow and grow every day. We should all serve as examples to keep going for all the kids in the world. How many children are born every day, Latin children so we can have a better world."
When he was 8 years old, Domingo moved from Spain to Mexico City, where he studied at the National Conservatory of Music. In 1968, he debuted with The Metropolitan Opera in New York City.
Previous recipients of the Person of the Year honor include Gloria Estefan, Julio Iglesias and Carlos Santana.
