President Volodymyr Zelenskyy thanked Elon Musk and Tesla for enabling Starlink satellite internet in the war-torn country. The war with Russia has affected parts of Ukraine and communication channels. In a video posted to Instagram, Ukraine President Zelenskyy thanks Musk for his services. The Ukrainian President even invites Musk to visit Ukraine after the war. Musk says he plans to “visit” the country after the war. President Zelenskyy thanked Elon Musk's SpaceX project Starlink for providing internet connectivity in Ukraine in a tweet. Starlink aims to provide internet services via satellite rather than the traditional wired cable. In theory, Starlink internet can be activated where wired connections are difficult to obtain. President Zelenskyy said, “Talked to Elon Musk. I’m grateful to him for supporting Ukraine with words and deeds. Next week we will receive another batch of Starlink systems for destroyed cities. Discussed possible space projects. But I’ll talk about this after the war." Vice-Premier and Minister of Digital Transformation Mykhailo Fedorov asked Musk to expand Starlink internet in Ukraine in February 2022. Fedorov sneered that Musk wants to colonize Mars while Russia invades Ukraine. Musk responded within 24 hours, stating that Starlink services are now active in Ukraine. Starlink, a SpaceX-operated venture, now has over 2,000 satellites orbiting Earth's lower orbit. As many as 42,000 satellites are planned. Many want Musk to remove Russian channels from Starlink internet to stop misinformation from spreading. He recently responded, “Starlink has been told by some governments (not Ukraine) to block Russian news sources. We will not do so unless at gunpoint. Sorry to be a free speech absolutist."
