Fishermans Bend in Melbourne is Australia’s new engineering and design precinct and it's coming to life in Victoria.
The University of Melbourne has purchased land in Australia’s largest urban renewal development to establish a new campus and expand the Melbourne School of Engineering.
Set to open early 2020s, the campus will enable students and academics to connect and collaborate with leading local and international companies, such as Boeing, General Motors Holden, the Defence, Science and Technology Group and more.
This site at Fishermans Bend was home to Holden for 80 years.
Now it will support large-scale research facilities and a vibrant innovation community, focused on solving some of the 21st century’s big societal challenges.
The University of Melbourne will drive research in areas such as renewable electricity systems, portable advanced water treatment systems for disaster recovery, fuel-efficient aircraft, autonomous vehicles and energy-efficient affordable housing.
Bringing research and teaching together with industry will mean more jobs, more investment, and more research and development.
This new precinct will tie it all together, attracting companies, partnerships and expertise to Victoria.
On the doorstep of the city, it will have access to road, cycling and public transport links.
This precinct was home to Victorian industry and jobs for the last 80 years – and now it will include a new University of Melbourne campus for engineering and IT – developing the entrepreneurial leaders and transformative technologies of the future.
