The 2020 CAREMSG protocols have increased the amount of volume we are to give for fluid resuscitation. We used to give 10-20cc/kg, but many of them have increased to potentially 30cc/kg. To quickly give a fluid bolus we can utilize 2 techniques. First: put a pressure infuser over the IV bag, and pump it up until you have a steady flow within the drip chamber. Second: for pediatrics we utilize the "push-pull-method". This involves the use of a syringe, drawing fluid from the line's port, and then pushing it to the patient. "Pinch to the patient, pull from the bag. Pinch to the bag, push to the patient". Try it out. You'll be amazed how fast these techniques can improve patient outcomes.
