Few dozens of protesters remained holed up in Hong Kong's Polytechnic University on Thursday as riot police encircled the campus, with some activists desperately searching for ways to escape while others hid, as the siege nears its end.
Michelle, a 20-year-old student who chose to stay behind, recounted the experience over the past several days on the battered campus of Polytechnic University: "Everyone was fighting to leave as soon as possible. And then at that moment I heard a guy shouting 'Let kids and women go first' which was so similar to the film Titanic."
Garbage has piled up around the campus, with debris from homemade petrol bombs littered across the grounds. Many protesters have abandoned their equipment, including gas masks and umbrellas.
