Dr. Gavin Macgregor-Skinner, an infectious disease specialist and epidemiologist in public health sciences at Penn State College of Medicine, talks about how you can help COVID-19 research without leaving the house. Questions that citizen science could answer are 1. How effective are stay-at-home orders in slowing the virus spread? And 2. How is sheltering in place affecting our physical activity and mood? 3. What everyday behaviors or exposures might influence the risk of infection or transmission?
The Penn State Project ECHO COVID-19 series seeks to inform healthcare providers and administration of the latest best practices in emergency preparedness and patient treatment for COVID-19.
Dr. Gavin Macgregor-Skinner has appeared on CNN, BBC, and C-SPAN to discuss his research in disaster medicine, preparedness, and health security. Prior to joining Penn State, he was an officer in the Australian and British militaries, an Epidemic Intelligence Service officer for the US CDC, and a Prevention and Global Health Fellow for the US AID. He is the director of strategic partnerships in disaster medicine at the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center and the Caribbean Center for Disaster Medicine at the American University of the Caribbean.
