Farewell of Slavianka was originally a Russian Imperial song dedicated to wives of soldiers during the First Balkan War. At first it had no lyrics and was used as a marching song by the military. During the Russian Civil War, the song was used by both the White and Red Armies, however only the White version had lyrics. It was heavily popular during WWII, although it’s lyrics were banned. This version’s lyrics are considered as the official, written in 1967, commemorating the soldiers all throughout Soviet history. Other lyrics were written even after the Soviet Union fell.
