Rachel and Kirsten will cover the current picture of serious youth violence and discuss how to implement a trauma-informed approach to pre-hospital care. The webinar will include case studies of health care professionals involved in violence reduction and community work and provide guidance about how to get involved.
Dr Rachel Jenner is a Consultant in Emergency Medicine who has specialised in Paediatric Emergency Medicine. She trained in the North West of England and then completed a post CCT fellowship in Paediatric Emergency Medicine at the Royal Children’s Hospital, Melbourne, Australia.
She is a Consultant in Paediatric Emergency Medicine at Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital, a Paediatric Major Trauma Centre and Group Associate Medical Director for Quality and Safety at Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust. In 2020 she was appointed as the Clinical Lead for the Greater Manchester Violence Reduction Unit. Rachel is passionate about getting more health professionals involved in reducing and preventing serious violence.
Kirsten McDermott is an Advanced Paramedic in Greater Manchester who works with the Major Trauma Network and has an interest in violence reduction. She qualified as a Paramedic from Sheffield University 2000 working in Surrey for 2 years after completing 6 months of training in Flight Medicine on helicopters and fixed wing aircraft South Africa, Namibia and Botswana.
She then trained in 2005 as an Emergency Care Practitioner with Mersey Regional Ambulance Service in Liverpool then moved to Cheshire as a Senior Paramedic.
