What a difference two years makes! The green coach is the 21A, released in 1956 and was the first Lesney model to have its own proper base. That said, the base had been removed and flipped upside down on mine at some stage in its life. It had evidently suffered a hard life, with a bent axle and London to Glasgow decals completely missing.
Then in 1958 came the updated and 11mm longer 21B. Instead of simply reading 'Lesney' and 'England' on the base, the 21B told us that this was a Bedford bus chassis with Duple coachwork. It shared the same decal as its older sibling but it suited just as well. Again, this one had suffered at the hands of a former owner and this time their artistic touch.
Bedford's SB coach chassis was built from 1950 until 1986. Duple were the coachbuilders, with the curved lines a signature of theirs from the era. The real Vega bodied SBs were very pretty buses indeed.
The 21B casting of the Bedford Duple lasted for three years until 1961 when it was replaced by the Commer Bottle Float.
